Villa Sonnenhof is located in the heart of the Berchtesgadener Land and just outside the gates of the metropolis Salzburg. Relax in our quiet location in Bayerisch Gmain and enjoy the panorama. The old town of Bad Reichenhall is only a short walk away. All excursion destinations in the Berchtesagdener and Salzburger Land can be reached from here in a short time.

Uniquely good location

Our location is the best combination of city hotel and quiet location in the countryside, combined with a fantastic view over the city and the mountains! The city center of Bad Reichenhall is just 10 minutes away on foot. The famous Café Reber, for example, is only a short 11-minute panoramic walk away. Just as quickly you are in the pedestrian zone with all the stores, the beautiful spa park with graduation house, at the old saltworks or at the Rupertus Therme Bad Reichenhall. Leave your car at home. Afterwards you can enjoy the heavenly peace and quiet on our large panoramic property. A trip to the Mozart city of Salzburg should also be an absolute highlight of your vacation with us. You can reach Salzburg in about 20 minutes by car or comfortably by S-Bahn or bus.

Arrival by car

You can reach us on the A8 freeway via exit 115 Bad Reichenhall and then via the B20 in the direction of Berchtesgaden. The approach via the German Alpine Road is particularly scenic. If you are coming from the north on the A8, you can include it in your trip on the last leg. Just take exit 112 Traunstein / Siegsdorf and follow the B306 via Inzell and the Thumsee to Bad Reichenhall. This will give you a real mountain feeling!

Arrival by train

Coming from Munich or Salzburg you change in Freilassing to the Berchtesgadener Land region train direction Bad Reichenhall / Berchtesgaden. After about 25 minutes you reach the train station Bayerisch Gmain, which is about 15 minutes walk from us. The way to the hotel is mostly slightly downhill, so even with rolling suitcases no problem. From the train station Bad Reichenhall you can also take a cab with your luggage to get to us. The ride takes about 10 minutes and costs about 11 €.

Arrival by plane

Salzburg Airport (SZG) is about 15-20 min away and is a great way to get to us. Especially for private pilots the airport is attractive. At the airport you will find offices of the biggest car rental companies. A cab ride to us costs about 30€. Alternatively you can use the regional bus 180 to Bayerisch Gmain. Munich airport is about 175 km away. From there you can reach us by rental car or by train.

Parking and e-charging station

On site we have plenty of free parking on our own property. A reservation is not required. For guests with electric vehicle we have a wallbox with type 2 plug and 11 kW power (chargeable).

Bicycles

You are welcome to bring your bikes and park them with us. Many great bike tours start right outside our front door, we will be happy to give you recommendations. We are also located directly on the Königssee - Bodensee bike path.

Vignette Austria

Please note the vignette obligation on the Austrian highway. On the country road you do not need a vignette. For a visit to Salzburg we recommend you to take the country road via Großgmain - without vignette. Vignettes are sold at most gas stations in the region.

Everything was as pictured on the internet, the room was very nice, clean and stylishly furnished. Family Fuchs including dog was extremely friendly and provided us with tips. We felt very comfortable! The breakfast was very tasty (especially the raspberry jam) and sitting outside on the sunny terrace was just great. The location is also great, you can walk comfortably to Bad Reichenhall and to a small castle. Villa Sonnenhof is also the perfect base for trips to Berchtesgadener Land region, such as Königssee, Kehlsteinhaus, Ramsau and the Hintersee, the Wimbachklamm and the Zauberwald. Nothing was more than 30 min drive away.

The room was very comfortably furnished, the surroundings were very quiet and you can walk to the center of Bad Reichenhall in 10 minutes. Family Fuchs took super care of us, prepared us a great breakfast and gave valuable tips for excursions. Hikes are possible in many ways and the Rupertustherme is worth a spa day. Since we could not do all our undertakings, we will again in June spend a few days in this great accommodation, with the hope of enjoying the great garden in summer temperatures. So a top tip 🙂

Visited Sonnenhof with my girlfriend during our 10-day vacation in Germany. We stayed a total of two days and nights and loved every minute of it. The family was incredibly accommodating and gave endless suggestions of things to see and do during our time in Bavaria. The room was impeccable - extremely clean, fully stocked minibar, and a wonderful view from our balcony. They also have the sweetest puppy there who isn't shy of taking all of the belly rubs you have to offer if you are so inclined to do so. We can't express how great our time there was and we will absolutely be returning in the future! 10/10 rating in our book, hands down the best B&B we visited in Germany.
